Veneers Q&A

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin sheets of porcelain that are customized to fit over your existing teeth to provide more uniform color, shape, and size. Your teeth still look natural, as the veneers reflect light, and your smile is straighter, balanced, and whiter.

What types of issues can veneers address?

Veneers solve a variety of smile issues that can make you feel self-conscious or embarrassed about your smile. These include:

  • Teeth discolored due to trauma, certain drugs, or excessive fluoride
  • Worn down, broken, or chipped teeth
  • Misaligned, uneven, too small, or irregularly shaped teeth
  • Teeth with small gaps between them

Veneers create a smile that you’re proud to flash.

What is the process of getting veneers?

After an initial consultation, veneers usually take at least two visits. At the first visit, the team at A2Z Smile Care removes approximately ½ millimeter of your teeth’s enamel to make room for the veneer. They then make a model of your teeth to send to a laboratory to fabricate your veneers. Temporary veneers may be placed while you wait for the final ones to come in.

At the second visit, the dentists at A2Z Smile Care permanently cement the veneers to your teeth. Before doing so, they ensure proper fit and that the color matches your natural smile.

How do I care for veneers?

Care for veneers just like you do your natural teeth. Brush them twice per day and floss once per day. Visit A2Z Smile Care for regular checkups and professional cleanings. Although porcelain veneers tend to be stain resistant, they can still discolor with excessive consumption of coffee or red wine.

With proper care, veneers can last up to 15 years.

What are Lumineers®?

Lumineers are similar to veneers in that they provide a solution for stubborn discoloration, misshapen teeth, or other cosmetic issues. However, to apply them, the team at A2Z Smile Care leaves your original tooth as is – they do not file down the enamel. Lumineers are thinner than porcelain veneers but still offer durability and strength. The dentists take less time to apply Lumineers because they skip the shaving down of your enamel.
